'Emas Bluse was created in 1961, the year that Gerhard Richter fled from the German Democratic Republic and relocated to Düsseldorf. A significant turning point in the artist's career, the work marked Richter’s abandonment of the Socialist Realist style officially sanctioned by the former GDR. Immediately upon arrival in the German Federal Republic, Richter confronted and absorbed Abstract Expressionism.“Emas Bluse” marks a transition toward the artist’s eventual (and signature) destination of photo-based painting.'

'In the clothed sculptures he created for the brand Hermès, Erwin Wurm departs from a simple visual resource such as a limb, a volume, or a garment. These are recurring elements in his work. He composes a constellation of these elements that speak to the spectator. The intriguing aspect lies in the visual standpoint, a perspective he knows how to share with the onlooker. Just like a philosopher, Erwin Wurm seizes one aspect of reality and processes it into a visual idea. The work of Erwin Wurm establishes a link between material change and a psychological perspective. It also examines sculptural themes like mass, volume and surface.' 'Money is an icon, a myth, a metaphor, a collectible, a talisman, a commodity, a means to an end, and much more. Money is ubiquitous, yet we never seem to have enough. In our American Dream, it is a common object of desire and we care greatly about its worth, yet we rarely reflect on its true value.' Ray Beldner
'The sense of mortality has become overwhelming. We feel that the anonymous owner of this stuff has died and that everything is being cleared away. LeDray’s diligently handmade clothing acts as a “vanitas” still life, symbolizing the inevitable transience of humanity and all its trappings.' Richard Cork
‘Not even physical warmth is meant... Actually I meant a completely different kind of warmth, namely spiritual or evolutionary warmth or the beginning of an evolution’.
